If you go to the gym three times a week and eat healthy you may believe you’re in good shape. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. While our Omaha fitness are excited you’re active and paying attention to what you’re eating these two activities simply may not be enough. When you’re working out intensity matters!
Physical activity affects more than you probably knew–your brain, joints, heart, and more! You may be thinking, “but isn’t doing some type of workout better than sitting on the couch eating potatoes?” Yes, of course, but you could be doing more work in the end than you need to. Below, our Omaha health fitness experts are going to discuss the importance of adding intensity to your workout. Read on to learn more!
“The 4-10 minute workout”
Wouldn’t it be awesome to be able to work out only 4-10 minutes a day? It’s possible, but in order to gain any health benefits from the illustrious 4-10 minute workout, you have to engage your workout with such intensity that your heart rate is pounding and you’re sweating the entire time.
At Omaha Barbell, the #1 Omaha gym, we have all sorts of machines to help you obtain this intensity goal. We have treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bicycle, free weights, power racks, pink prowlers, and much more—anything you can think of to get your heart rate up, we have it!
It’s important to note though, that our machines don’t do the work for you. It’s up to you to keep your heart rate up by exercising at a higher intensity level than you’re used to!
Why is intense exercise important?
Intense exercise can have an extreme effect on your oxygen intake level and can even lower your blood pressure. Don’t believe us?. A low-and-high volume study was done for 10 weeks with out of shape volunteers running on the treadmill for 4 minutes a day, 3 times a week–unbelievably their oxygen intake and endurance was improved by a whopping 10 percent, and their blood pressure was better controlled too! The catch is they had to run at their 90% capacity level.
With this new information, now there’s no excuse for not having time to work out! There are other studies that show strenuous and shorter workouts are more important and beneficial than long and half-enthused workouts. At OBGYM, our Omaha health fitness professionals don’t argue with facts; we just want what’s best for our members. We provide the machines, information, and motivation for you to get on track to your fitness goals. So remember that when it comes to fitness, intensity matters.
