If you didn’t make it to an Omaha gym as often as you would have liked during the winter months, you may feel unhappy about any extra pounds you’re carrying. While it’s normal to be hard on yourself, that’s not the best way to get into shape this summer. Although getting your body to the point you want it for summer will take hard work, it’s something you can still accomplish.
To help you reach this goal, we’ve put together a very actionable guide based on information directly from our personal training team:
Don’t Get Hung Up on Past Mistakes or Shortcomings
Before you can start making progress, you need to fully let yourself off the hook for anything you may perceive as a past fitness mistake or shortcoming. Even though this step is a mental exercise and not a physical one, it’s still very important. By shaking off everything from the past and shifting all of your focus to the present, you’ll be ready to truly get started.
Have a Plan
At Omaha Barbell, we know from personal experience and the experience of our members that getting in shape is always easier when you have a plan. That being said, there is one important caveat to having a plan. If you make your plan too rigid and detailed, it can actually sabotage your ability to make any progress. By instead coming up with your initial plan and acknowledging that it will change over time, you can start making progress and adjust as needed.
Accept That You May Have to Take a Few Steps Back
If it’s been several months or longer since you felt like you were in peak condition, it’s going to take some time to regain all of your strength and endurance. So while you’ll definitely want to push yourself when you’re in an Omaha gym, don’t do things to the point where you end up using bad form.
Use New Music for a Shot of Motivation
Although it’s a simple thing to do, coming up with a new workout playlist can be exactly what you need to feel a fresh dose of motivation when you’re in your gym in Omaha. You may also find that it’s helpful to create individual playlists for things like lifting weights or doing cardio.
Celebrate Your Consistency and Progress
The more you acknowledge your consistency in getting to the gym, the easier it will become to turn it back into an ongoing habit. While you’re unlikely to see dramatic changes overnight, don’t hesitate to pat yourself on the back for getting up and making it to your Omaha gym.
