One reality that any good personal training professional will make clear to their clients is that solid workouts are only part of the equation. Whether your goal is to lose weight, build lean muscle or transform your body by making several changes, you need the right approach to diet and exercise in order to succeed.
Although eating well may actually sound easier than consistently putting in your Omaha gym time, most people end up finding that the former is more challenging. There are several reasons that taking the right approach to nutrition is so hard. Not only does it require you to say no to the temptations that are constantly around, but succeeding with nutrition also means that you need to have the right plan to follow.
Since many of the most popular diets that get discussed in the media are not designed for long-term success, Omaha Barbell wants to clear up some of the nutrition myths that are out in the world by sharing three tips that will empower you to find sustainable success:
Personal Training Nutrition Tip #1
While it’s important to be aware of roughly how many calories you’re consuming on a daily basis, that doesn’t mean you should build your diet around foods that market themselves as being low calorie. The reason is there are plenty of low calorie foods that don’t provide much nutritional value. On the other hand, you can’t automatically assume that something is low in calories just because it’s healthy. Nuts are a great example of a nutritionally sound food that can easily add an excessive amount of calories to your daily intake. In order to achieve your goals, it’s important to strike the right balance.
Tip #2: Limit the Number of Calories You Drink
When people start looking into how many calories they consume on a daily basis, they’re often surprised by how many come from beverages. For example, while plain black coffee has very few calories, it only takes a couple of additions to hit 100 or more calories for a single cup. Since drink calories don’t leave your stomach feeling satisfied, being conscious of these calories and cutting as many as possible can be very beneficial.
Tip #3: When in Doubt, Limit Your Portions
One of the big reasons that people struggle to stick to a healthy eating plan is they don’t want to miss out on social activities like eating at restaurants. Since finding sustainable strategies is crucial for long-term success, a simple but effective tactic is to limit your portions whenever you’re in doubt about how many calories a dish contains. By only eating half a plate, you can enjoy the experience without consuming an excessive amount of calories.
